There are two types of defibrillators: semi-automatic and fully automatic models. Semi-automatic defibrillators will ask the rescuer to administer the shock if it is identified that the patient requires one. Fully automatic defibrillators anaylse the patient's condition and issue an audio warning before automatically administering a shock to the patient. A defibrillator will only ever allow a shock to be delivered if one is required.
