Open to a single delegate per login code, the Level 2 Award in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillation is a comprehensive course that equips learners with the skills and knowledge to provide effective emergency lifesaving first aid care. The course covers Basic Life Support skills for adults, children, and infants, including safety precautions, initial assessment, recovery position, CPR, and choking. It is ideal for healthcare professionals requiring annual updates for membership renewal.

AED training is also covered, emphasizing the importance of prompt AED use in increasing survival chances during cardiac arrest. While they are designed to be easy to use with little to no training, the familiarity and confidence provided by formal training is not to be understated when every second counts.

Cardiac Arrest

When the heart fails to contract effectively enough to circulate blood around the body. Also known as cardiopulmonary arrest or circulatory arrest.

Chain of Survival

The crucial four steps that need to be implemented when dealing with a victim of cardiac arrest.

1. Call emergency services as soon as possible
2. Administer CPR
3. Apply an AED as soon as possible
4. Engage with medical professionals upon their arrival

Chest Compressions

One element of CPR, chest compressions refer to a method of trying to restart a patient’s heart or regulate the patient’s heart rhythm. The depth of chest compressions administered to a patient will vary with their weight, age and size.

Childrens Defib Pads

Standard defib pads are designed for adults (usually persons 7 or 8 years+). Childrens pads are specifically designed for children; one so that they fit and two so that the shock delivered is reduced.

Commotio Cordis

When the heart will go into a state of ‘unconsciousness’. Commotio Cordis is caused by a sudden blow to the chest that causes the heart to stop beating and lose its cardiac rhythm.

Congenital Heart Defect

A defect in the structure of the heart, apparent from birth.

CPRD

A device or feature of a defib unit that assists users with the delivery of effective CPR. CPRDs significantly improve the quality of CPR and give real time feedback and advice on how well the treatment is being delivered.
